Library Experience

Student Specialist Level I

Lichtenberger Engineering Library, Iowa City, IA
August 2014-Present

Gained knowledge of a university library and its operations. Organized the Engineering Library's Tool Library (as a WordPress site), the physical tools, the information stored on the server, a binder with information, and the online information. Modified Engineering LibGuides with the goal of increasing the usability of the guides. Researched and developed a paper, blog, and exhibit of the MECCA Week Celebration for the College of Engineering. Arranged books and other materials in the library using the Library of Congress Call Numbers. Completed standard circulation desk tasks such as checking out, returning, recalling, and placing books using the computer software ALMA.

Media Maintenance and Volunteer

Assisted full-time library employees with the shelving and organizing of the media collection. Communicated with the patrons about the locations of items and various services offered by the library. Developed visualizations using D3 JavaScript Library for the Digital Humanities Project, Mapping the Independent Media Community, from CSV files. Generated HTML Code to add to MIMC Project webpage. Gained a greater understanding of user interfaces and the organization of webpages. Practiced and improved communication skills, teamwork on digital projects, and project management.

Computer Science and Database Classes

Fall 2011-Present

Built computer programs using MATLAB and Fortran as an Aerospace Engineering Major at Iowa State University. Informatics Minor courses covering introduction to Python, SQL, and other scripting languages. The Database Management course concluded with a team project of building a database, data entry, data manipulation and visualization, and a presentation about the project. Continued to take graduate level courses with an emphasis in technology covering Python, SQL, C++, XML, HTML/CSS, and Data Mining using Weka.

Digital Publication Class

Fall 2014

Completed the class 'Museum Literacy and Historical Memory' where digital publishing was emphasized. Created a digital museum about the 1904 World’s Fair in St. Louis by submitting a photo of a map of St. Louis and Fairgrounds with an article about parallels of racism demonstrated in the organization of the city and the grounds. Critiqued, edited, and finalized an entry for the museum collection. Collection is posted in the University of Iowa History Corp.

Joined the Order of DeMolay, a youth organization in the Masonic Family, in 2007. Culminated with being installed as the State Master Councilor for Iowa DeMolay for the 2012-2013 year. Following the completion of the term became a member of the adult staff for Iowa DeMolay. Both roles designed annual programs for youth members, scheduled events, and educated younger members about the organization.

Boy Scouts, Eagle Scout and Adult Leader

Joined Boy Scouts of America in 2003 as a 6th grader. Earned Eagle Scout Award in 2009. Worked with Fidelitas Masonic Lodge to repair building. Organized Troop Members and families to contribute 97 man hours to the project. Obtained donations of tools and supplies to repaint building, landscaping, bush and weed removal, and general cleaning. As an adult monitored scouts progress and fostered growth by scouts. Advanced the lessons and qualities that Boy Scouting exemplified.
